How to Cancel Railway Tickets

If you booked over the counter:
Train tickets purchased from across the ticket counters have to be canceled on ticket counters. All computerized ticket counters can be used for either booking or cancellation of physical tickets irrespective of from which counter these were booked at.

If you booked online (I-Ticket)
Cancellation of I-Tickets can be done at any computerised reservation counter across the country and a cancellation ticket obtained. No cash refund will be given. Service Charge is also not refundable. The refund amount will be credited to the respective credit card account electronically, the following day of cancellation. Refund of fare shall be made after deduction of cancellation charge of the fare can be checked in detail on this link http://www.irctc.co.in/itktcanc_new.html

If you booked online (E-Ticket)
If user wishes to cancel his e-ticket from ‘BOOKED TICKETS’ link on the left navigation bar (Please login to irctc website), select the ticket to be cancelled and click on ‘Cancel e-ticket’ and can initiate the cancellation by selecting the passengers to be cancelled. User has to select only those passengers who are to be cancelled in case of partial cancellation of ticket. In case of partial cancellation the passenger should get a free printout of the ERS for the passengers continuing there journey. If the ticket is partially cancelled, a fresh Electronic Reservation Slip needs to be carried by the Passenger. Details of this can be found on http://www.irctc.co.in/eticketsguide.html
