I wanted to book a radio taxi from my place to the New Delhi railway station and thought I would check out the much advertised Meru Cabs service. They have an online booking system where you can fill out info on your tip… time, place etc and they will then send a cab over at that time and let you know about the status on your cell via sms. Not bad! So I started filling the form which lead me to the “I accept the Terms & Conditions” check mark. As I have mentioned this before also, do not simply check mark it without reading the T&C, you might be surprised as to what you have signed up for.

Now here is the interesting part… the tag line for Meru Cab service is “Rely On Us” and this is far from what they actually mean when you go through the terms and conditions of using their service.

Below are a few points which I thought everyone should read (Taken from their TOC page)

2. Meru makes no representation or warranty that:

– the service will meet your requirements;
– the service will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free.

3. Meru shall not be responsible or liable for any loss or damage, howsoever caused or suffered by the Customer arising out of the use of taxi service offered by Meru or due to the failure of Meru to provide services to the Customer for any reason whatsoever including but not limited to the Customer’s non-compliance with the services’ recorded voice instructions, malfunction, partial or total failure of any network terminal, data processing system, computer tele-transmission or telecommunications system or other circumstances whether or not beyond the control of Meru or any person or any organization involved in the abovementioned systems.

7. Meru shall be entitled at any time without giving any reason or prior notice to terminate the booking of taxis done by the Customer.

14. V-Link Taxis Pvt. Ltd have right to use the customer contact information for our own marketing purposes

15. V-Link taxis Pvt. Ltd. does not warrant that this site, its servers, or e-mail sent from Meru are free of viruses or other harmful components. Meru will not be liable for any damages of any kind arising from the use of this site, including, but not limited to direct, indirect, incidental, punitive, and consequential damages.

A company who is not will to take responsibility for anything, not even if they are late or cancel on you without notification, how can you rely on such a company?

Just so you know, I did book the taxi online and was taken to the confirmation page which said that I will get a call from their customer care… its been 6 hours now… no calls and no confirmation sms.
