Who Moved My Cheese?

What is common between the Finance Minister Mr. P. Chidambaram and Civil Avaiton Minister Mr. Praful Patel? Yes, you guessed it right! Thy both are incompetent in the respective jobs.

All was good when India was shining a year back, the stock market was up… everyone was flying high on good salaries and growing economy, but when things got bad… both theses Ministers did not have what it takes because if they had it in them, then India would not have been in this situation in the first place.

I was taken aback after 1900 temp employees of Jet Airways were given the pink slip but what was more shocking was the reason these employees were so furious. Most of them had taken loans, not just to complete their training but also to support their sudden glamorous lifestyles, some had bought cars and some had financed home loans… just about everyone was in some financial debt. We have moved on from a time where most of the salary would go on to the saving account to a time where almost all the salary is going towards paying loans and credit card bills.

This is what Mr. Praful Patel had to say after Jet Chairman Mr. Goyal apologized and asked everyone to get back to work.

“It’s a good decision,” Aviation Minister Praful Patel said within minutes of Goyal’s announcement.

Patel said he had no “foolproof solution” to Goyal’s request for help from the government. “I cannot write a cheque for any airline. There is no such thing as a bailout package, please.”

If Mr. Patel cannot write a cheque to Jet, then how is taking all the employees back a good decision? Where will Jet come up with money for salaries when it is running into losses? This kind of a foolish statement will lead the company into filing bankruptcy very soon, starting a chain reaction where interdependent companies will fall in the same trap.

People need to realise that they are working for a private sector where they can be fired with little notice and if they have a problem with that then they should take up government jobs where they are not fired but asked to go on a pay less leave for 3-5 years.
