Another Open Sewer, Another Death

Boy dies due to open manhole. It is a little strange to read that the MCD Commissioner Mr. K.S Mehra is more worried about if the boy fell or was pushed in the open sewer, instead of acknowledging the fact that the sewer was open and it is MCD’s fault.

A five year old boy died after he fell into an open sewer at the Ap- sara border in East Delhi on Wednesday. Sumit was a resident of Aradhak Nagar in Seema Puri. His father Mange Ram is a driver. The incident took place when Sumit had gone out to play with his friends around 4 p.m. on Wednesday .

“The boy did not come back till late in the evening. His mother went out to look for him but could not find him anywhere. They then registered complaint with the police,” said a senior police officer.

Early next morning, Sumit’s mother found his slippers and knickers near a sewer near the Municipal Corporation of Delhi’s toll tax building at the Apsara Border.

The building shares a boundary wall with the Aradhak Nagar locality She apparently prodded the uncovered gutter with a stick and found her son’s body.
