A politician, the troubled son of a murdered BJP stalwart and a starlet facing criminal charges it’s an interesting group that’ll feature in Bigg Boss 2.

Sanjay Nirupam, Rahul Mahajan and Monica Bedi are part of the reality TV show that began Sunday.

Congress spokesman and former MP Nirupam has raised the most eyebrows. His detractors said it was an effort to get cheap publicity, friends cautioned the move may boomerang.

But Nirupam told HT in an e-mail: “I’ll try to use television to change the perception of politicians.” Those watching the curtain-raiser were also surprised to see the tuxedoclad son of the late Pramod Mahajan showing participants around the house. “He (Rahul) took two months to say yes,” said his friend S.M. Ausaja.

Days after his father succumbed to bullet injuries inflicted by brother Pravin in May 2006, Rahul found himself at the centre of a drug scandal that left Maha jan’s secretary Bibek Moitra dead.

Starlet Monica Bedi, out on bail, has been linked with gangster Abu Salem.
